I've just lost some files. What should I do?

Data loss is unnerving because no one can guarantee that you will get your files back. There is only one thing you can do to ensure the best possible chances for full recovery of you data.
Stop using your computer. Turn it off.
Your precious data is still present in the unused portions of your hard disk. Don't even turn your computer back on just to go and visit a web page. Every single time you start your computer, many temporary files are created and deleted. Any one of these files can overwrite some of your lost data. Don't try to download and install new software (including data recovery software) since this too will decrease your chances of getting your data back.
A data recovery specialist will boot your computer using a "live" cd, which means that a complete operating system can be run from your computer's ram, and not use your hard disk at all. Using an extra hard disk, the contents of your hard drive can safely be extracted without any chance of destroying any data.
Call me and I can help recover your data.
